A truly awesome storm

It's four in the morning, and a truly awesome storm is over Dallas/Fort Worth right now.
I haven't been able to sleep all night. Maybe I could sense it was coming. It's been raining in intermittent burts all day, but nothing too serious.

Then about half an hour ago, it started. The wind was gusting so strongly it was blowing rain up, down, and sideways. A mini hurricane started swirling between the apartment buildings. My dog hid under the bed.

The sky went green with lightening. I was able to stand on my porch, completely dry because the wind blows from behind the apartment buildings. Lights in the entire complex flicker with particularly strong gusts. A little frisson of awe and fear went through me.

I've never seen the puddle in the middle of the lawn fill so fast. I can literally see the edge creeping across the grass as the water collects.

We've had some truly amazing storms in Texas in the last year. Global warming, El Nino, whatever. They've been memorable.

But none have sent shivers up and down my spine like this one.

In the time it took me to write that post, the storm lessened. No more thunder, and there's just the drip drip drip through the drainpipes.
